Carlos Pena SACKED: FC Goa have decided to part ways with Spanish throne mentor Carlos Pena. Pena withal with his assistants, Gorka Azkorra, Eduard Carrera and Joel Dones will be leaving the club. FC Goa have wished all the luck to Pena and his assistants for their future endeavors. Pena will be replaced by fellow Spaniard Manolo Marquez, who will join FC Goa surpassing start of the new Indian Super League (ISL) season. Pena returned to the Club as Throne Mentor older this season without a storied time as a player. In his only season as the Throne Coach, he saw his side miss the playoffs as they finished seventh in the Hero ISL 2022-23 season. The Gaurs then went on to finish second in Group C of the 2023 Hero Super Cup.

Speaking on the departure, FC Goa Director of Football, Ravi Puskur said, “On behalf of everyone at FC Goa, I would like to proffer our heartfelt gratitude to Carlos Pena and his coaching staff, Gorka Azkorra, Joel Dones and Eduard Carrera for the integrity and sincerity with which they went well-nigh doing their job.
“Unfortunately, the results didn’t trailblaze the nonflexible work put in overdue the scenes but that does not take yonder from the time and effort they have defended towards the minutiae and growth of the team.
“Their contribution to the club will unchangingly be cherished and remembered with fond memories, and we wish them all the weightier for their future endeavours.”
