NKUNKU IS OUT OF THE 2022 WORLD CUP IN QATAR DUE TO A TRAINING INJURY
Just five days before the start of the 2022 World Cup, France has been dealt yet another blow with the injury to Christopher Nkunku. It was reported that the RB Leipzig star, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea in January, was already in contact with Didier Deschamps' squad in advance of the competition. The injury to Nkunku occurred on Tuesday during the final training session at Clairefontaine, which is the French national football center. A report indicates that the RB Leipzig striker was injured as a result of colliding with Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga during a match in the Champions League.
The French star joins N'Golo Kante and Paul Pogba in being left out of the tournament in Qatar. In a statement, the French national team stated that Christopher Nkunku has been injured during training and must withdraw from the World Cup. All of the members of the group share Christopher's sadness and wish him a speedy recovery in the future.
This is a major blow to France. With 12 goals from 15 games and two assists, Nkunku is the leading goalscorer in the Bundesliga this season. As well as helping Leipzig qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, he scored three goals in their final four games. A 3-2 victory over Real Madrid in Leipzig's fourth game in a row changed the course of Leipzig's European campaign. While Leipzig lost their first two group games in Europe, they turned the tables by winning their next four games in a row. The first game France will play at the World Cup is against Australia on November 22, followed by matches against Denmark and Tunisia. As a result of their injury troubles and the quality of several nations, including Brazil, Argentina, and Germany, it is expected that the defending champions will have a difficult time making it to back-to-back titles.
As of now there is no news about how serious the injury will be, but Chelsea will be watching on nervously in anticipation of the outcome. A number of reports claimed the deal was so advanced that a medical had already been conducted, but it remained to be seen whether the deal would be viable now that the deal has fallen through. Some even claimed the deal had been so far advanced that a medical was already being carried out, but it remains to be seen whether a deal will now be viable. With 12 goals in just 14 Bundesliga appearances for Leipzig so far, Nkunku has enjoyed a blistering season for the club. The French World Cup squad will be drafted Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani to replace Nkunku.
