After leading Croatia to the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, seasoned midfielder Luka Modric is just a couple of steps away from making history. When it was held in Russia last time, Croatia got to the final but lost to France. Even so, Croatia wasn't the favorite at the start of the tournament, but their resilience and fighting spirit have pushed them to the last four. The team barely made it past the group stage before beating Japan on penalties.
Though they faced a much fancied and stronger opponent in Brazil, they held their own and forced a 1-1 draw to force a penalty shootout. They won again. “The DNA of our team is the same as that of Real Madrid, and we never relent as a group,” added the 37-year-old. "I want to play another semifinal against a big team, not just against a player," Modric said, as he looks forward to facing an Argentine team that includes Lionel Messi. There is no doubt that Leo is their best player, and we're going to have a hard time stopping him, but we're prepared and we'll do our best. "Hopefully it'll be enough to make it to the final," he said.
