2023 Sports Personality Award of the Year

Mary Earps has been selected the 2023 BBC Sports Personality of the Year. After teammate Beth Mead won the award last year for her efforts at UEFA EURO 2022, Earps has made it back-to-back SPOTY winners for the Lionesses. The goalie finished ahead of Stuart Broad (cricket), Frankie Dettori (horse racing), Alfie Hewett (wheelchair tennis), Katarina Johnson-Thompson (athletics), and Rory Mcllroy (golf) as one of six candidates.

Earps received the honor following another spectacular year in which she played every minute of the Lionesses' journey to the World Cup final and won many trophies, including the tournament's Golden Glove, Best Women's Goalkeeper at FIFA's The Best awards, and England Women's Player of the Year.

Key achievement:Earps, 30, was England's top player when they reached their first Women's World Cup final this summer, earning the Golden Glove for best goalkeeper.

2023 Team of the Year 

Name: Manchester City

Sport: Football

Key achievement: Manchester City became only the second English team after Manchester United in 1998-99 to win a continental treble.

The club won their third consecutive Premier League title with three games to spare before defeating rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

City then won the Champions League for the first time, defeating Inter Milan 1-0 in the final in Istanbul.

2023 Coach of the Year

Name: Pep Guardiola

Sport: Football

Key achievement:Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, is the only manager to have won two Trebles, having done it with Barcelona in 2008-09.

Since taking over in 2016, the 52-year-old has guided the Blues to five Premier League triumphs.

2023 World Sport Star of the Year

2023 Sports Personality Award

Name: Erling Haaland

Sport: Football

Key achievement: During his debut season with Manchester City, Haaland, 23, set a Premier League record with 36 goals in 38 appearances.

To help City win the Treble, the Norwegian striker scored 52 goals in all competitions, the highest by a player at a Premier League team in a single season.

Award for Lifetime Achievement

Name: Sir Kenny Dalglish

Sport: Football

Key achievement: After joining Liverpool from Celtic in 1977, Dalglish won eight league titles and three European Cups as a player and manager.

In 1995, he also guided Blackburn Rovers to the Premiership Championship.

With 102 games and 30 goals, the 72-year-old is Scotland's most capped male player and equal record goalscorer.

Helen Rollason Award

Name: Fatima Whitbread

Sport: Javelin

Key achievement: Whitbread, 62, was abandoned as a newborn and spent the first 14 years of her life in children's homes.

She went on to shatter the javelin world record and earn World and European Championship gold after being nurtured.

Whitbread is now campaigning to overhaul the care system to guarantee that foster children are "seen, heard, and valued."

2023 Unsung Hero

Name: Des Smith

Sport: Multi-sport

Achievement: Des is the chairman of Sheffield Caribbean Sports Club, a safe haven for young people that has five cricket teams, eight junior football teams, netball and hockey teams, and other sports.

Through the group, he works to promote racial relations and understanding by teaching people in Sheffield about the relevance of the Windrush generation.

2023 Young Sports Personality of the Year

Name: Mia Brookes

Sport: Snowboarding

Achievement: Brookes became the sport's youngest world champion when she won slopestyle gold in February, only a month after turning 16.

She landed the first Cab 1440 double grab in a women's event while earning Britain's maiden slopestyle title.

Brookes won World Cup slopestyle silver at the famous Laax event in January and big air bronze in Chur in October while competing in her debut senior season.
